HOW TO BECOME A FOSTER PARENT


Washington State is always in need of foster families. The application process begins with you contacting your local DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) Office. They will guide you through the steps necessary and answer all of the questions that you might have.

Contact a local foster child placement agency for an application or information.

  • Private agency
     

Complete all parts of the application process, including criminal background checks and foster care classes.

The licensing process can be long and tedious, but please be patient. The children need you.
 

CLASSES

The Pediatric Interim Care Center is now offering a class called
 "An Introduction to Caring for Drug-Exposed Babies".
Taught by PICC staff, the class will introduce how to care for a drug exposed infant. Included is also how to recognize the signs and signals of drug exposure along with the special therapeutic handling techniques needed to care for these little ones.

The scheduled dates are: 

  • May 5, 2008

  • July 14, 2008

  • September 15, 2008

  • November 17 2008

The classes, held at PICC begin at 7:00 pm and go to 8:30 PM (doors open at 6:50 PM)  Please call to reserve a spot. as space is limited.
